Helmets $17.73 Helmets

Are we allowed to skate around the AMC center, Burbank High, etc. in Burbank w/o Helmets?

To start it off, I'm 13, and I was skating with my friend on that long bike path on Chandler Street, and after 2 seconds, just starting to ride, a cop kicks us off cuz we aren't wearing any helmets!

Anyways, ever since then, i have been wearing my helmet (if in Burbank) and the cops pass by me as if i were invisible. Some kids got busted for WALKING their scooters! But i pass by younger/older kids riding their scooter, skateboards, and roller blades, with no helmet or pads what so ever. And their like invisible to cops!

So, to get to the point...

Are we allowed skate/longboard around Burbank w/o Helmets?

California law states that any person under 18 riding a bicycle, skateboard, scooter or roller skates on a public right of way or public property is required to wear a helmet. Local laws can be enacted to require those 18 and over to wear helmets.

6. Make up your own coupon booklet on the computer and give it to your husband/wife. In the coupon booklet for an example a coupon might read, "This coupon good for a 1/2 hour back rub." The next coupon might read, "Coupon good for 20 minute foot massage." The next coupon might say, "Good for one night out at your favorite restaurant". Coupon booklets are great because we can customize them to our needs and wants too.

The Recognition Of The Hot Rod In Automotive Art

Once upon a time, only a few years ago, if you went to an art exhibition like the Saturday night AFAS show preceding the Pebble Beach Concours, all you saw depicted was classic cars, mostly prewar cars like Duesenbergs, Bentleys, etc.
Then depictions of muscle cars started creeping in, on cat's feet so to speak, but this was inevitable because some of the greatest car artists of our time are former ad illustrators like Art Fitzpatrick who painted the immortal Pontiac Grand Prix and GTO illustrations. At age 20, he was already working with Howard "Dutch" Darrin, designing the 1940 Packard four-door.
Tom Fritz , of Ventura, CA, was one of the first American fine artists to "break the mold" and depict the cars he grew up with;not LeTourneau et Marchand Bugattis but good ol' hot rods he saw on the streets of San Fernando, an LA suburb. Tom's vivid childhood recollections of the motorcycle and automotive cultures prevalent in Southern California during the 60's and 70's are reflected in his work.Among his clients are Harley Davidson and his paintings hang in many corporate collections and museums including the NHRA Museum.
And then, just like out on the lawn of Pebble Beach, hot rods appeared. Oh, the painters, many of them, were familiar with hot rods, heck many either owned or lusted after the '32 Ford "Deuce" roadster in their youth but never wanted to admit it in polite company at events like Pebble Beach where the talk was all of Hispano-Suizas, Erdmann and Rossi 540Ks, James Young Phantoms and the like.
But now the secret is out. We all be hot rodders. Because fundamentally a car is a car and if it's mechanical we love it.
The depictions of hot rodding that have appeared in fine art so far are steeped in history—say paintings of hot rods being run at the dry lake beds where hot rodders raced them even before WWII. More modern setting depictions are rarer though recently there has been a blossoming of "cruise-ins", impromptu car shows, at places like drive-in restaurants nationwide.
And then there's the problem of the commercial cliché—if you show a hot rod in a drive-in restaurant (like the kind where the waitresses rolled out on roller skates to take your order) then you risk painting something that commercial retro-theme restaurants are still currently exploiting.
And once you've opened Pandora's box, how far do you go, because there's a deep dark secret about hot rods. Now neat and clean hot rods are one thing, but deep down if you research the genre, you find out there's another vein of hot rodding called the "rat rodding." Because back in the day hot rodders had enough money to buy Smitty mufflers or Rajo axles but didn't have enough money to paint the car so they ran them in flat primer. There's a whole subtext/genre of hot rodders who have no intention of ever finishing their cars to normal "finished car" standards. To them, it is an outlaw statement on four wheels to leave it unfinished.
Call it being "in your face."
One of the first books to show this side of the car world was the artful softbound Hot Rod by Barry Gifford with David Perry taking the pictures of rough cars built by some rough looking ("wife beater" t-shirts and lots of tattoos) dudes. Perry also wrote the movie Wild at Heart. This book captures the era when driving a hot rod made you a "bad dude" --almost as bad as riding a Harley.
There was a real life example of hot rod meets fine art that I saw a couple years ago at the AFAS tent at Pebble at their party. It was when Chip Foose, a young designer who has worked for the Detroit automakers but who now is famous for his hot rod designs, drove up to their tent in a Ford roadster –the car full of aeroplane parts like exhausts from a WWII fighter!
The artists poured of the tent to see his hot rod and there was plenty of admiration expressed—indicating that, deep down in many an American-born artist famous for depicting classic cars is a hot rodder who knew the names Bill Cushenberry, Dean Jeffries and Gene Winfield long before he ever heard of Sergio Pininfarina or Giorgetto GIugiaro….

Las Vegas Vacation; an Odd Hybrid Between the Adult and Child’s Playground

A Las Vegas vacation can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people, from a booze and gambling-filled party to a nice vacation away from home with the kids (some people even combine these two vibes in one vacation). The Las Vegas vacation industry really boomed in the late 60s and early 70s when Las Vegas invented its image as a playground for adults, full of glitzy casinos, extravagant shows, and bars that were open night and day. In this Vegas you could catch a show, gamble all night, throw back a whiskey sour with breakfast at 8am and go to sleep for a few hours before doing it all over again.

In the early 90s the Las Vegas vacation became something completely different. With the introduction of attractions like New York New York’s roller coaster and MGM Grand’s child-friendly environment, the Las Vegas casinos began to attract families who were traveling together. Casino owners realized they could attract the all-night gamblers and high rollers while catering to a completely new crowd, the families, who brought their own money to play in the Las Vegas sands. Kid-friendly shows, restaurants, and attractions popped up everywhere, and many casinos also offered child play areas so mom and dad could still go off to drink and gamble.

Now, Las Vegas vacations represent an odd hybrid between the adult and child’s playground. Roller coasters rumble over casino floors where slot machines ping and whiz and roulette wheels clatter. Thanks to the legalization of prostitution in Vegas, advertisements for escort agencies litter the sidewalks and ads for topless shows are displayed on taxi cabs next to ads for Sponge Bob Square Pants. Though the strip has reinvented its image as a family-friendly location, the adult-playground feeling still persists. You can still find more high-end restaurants and nightclubs that just about any other small area in the U.S., and money and champagne still flow freely.

Though adults and young children alike can enjoy a Las Vegas vacation, the environment is a little tougher for teenagers. Since those under 21 can’t drink, nor can they gamble, most of the adult-orientated attractions in Vegas are off-limits to them. Likewise, older teenagers probably aren’t very interested in the arcades or the roller coasters that their younger siblings are so excited about. Though some nightclubs aren’t 21+, most of them are, leaving older teens with little entertainment. If you’re a family with a few teenagers another location may be better, as vacationing with older teens in Vegas may entice them to try out more adult forms of entertainment.

I don't even like the word "exercise" anymore. Like the word "diet", which really just means what you eat, the meaning of the word "exercise" has changed.

It once meant you were "physically moving your body for the sake of your health". That doesn't sound bad at all. Unfortunately, it has come to represent activities that are mostly boring, repetitive, and unappealing.

 Movement is supposed to be fun. It should be good for the soul as well as for the body.

Our bodies are meant to be in motion. To be active, agile, busy, and full of life. We weren't meant to sit on the couch all day any more than we were meant to spend hours locked away in smelly gyms.

Time travel back to when you were a child. If you were like most children, you were on the move all the time. It was never called exercise. Who would have thought of such a thing?

It was called PLAYING!  And it was fun. Children don't count calories. They don't force themselves to play for a certain amount of time. They move around because they love it and it feels good.

No pain, no gain - blechh. If lifting weights makes you happy, more power to you. But for most people that gym membership is just a waste of money and another source of guilt.  Life is just too short to spend it being miserable.

Bollywood Movie Lafangey Parindey Trailer

Lafangey Parindey is an upcoming Bollywood film under the banner of Yashraj Films, which stars Deepika Padukone and Neil Nitin Mukesh as the lead pair. The film is a love story set in the gritty streets of Mumbai. The film is slated for release on 20th August, 2010.

The film is about bike gangs in Mumbai which indulge in daredevil stunts. Neil Nitin Mukesh plays the character of ‘One Shot Nandu', who is famous for pummelling his opponents in the ring blindfolded. Deepika plays Pinky Palkar, a blind and ambitious dancer who dances with her roller skates on. Nandu teaches her to see and she teaches him how to love. But what price will they have to pay for their love? This forms the crux of the film. The lead pair has done some real life stunts for this film. Yashraj Films is not disclosing much about the film as they want the anticipation for the film to build!

Deepika Padukone will be seen starring in this Yash Raj Films movie alongside co-star Neil Nitin Mukesh for the first time, very different from her previous glamorous roles. According to sources Deepika and Neil have extremely challenging roles to play in this love story set in the gritty streets of Mumbai. It seems Deepika is playing a role of a blind girl and Neil Nitin Mukesh that of a fighter The film will be released worldwide. Neil Nitin Mukesh also affirmed that all the action in the film is real and so is the physical violence. The actor was left bruised and wounded after he shot for this film. The rumour doing rounds is that, this movie is about the bike gangs of Mumbai and Neil and Deepika will be seen doing daring stunts in the film. But considering that Neil's character is called 'One Shot Nandu', there might be a bit of Guy Ritchie influence too. Let's hope that this new pair of can create magic both on screen as well as the box office.

The film is being directed by Pradeep Sarkar and is being produced by Aditya Chopra. This is Pradeep Sarkar's second film under the Yashraj Films banner, the previous one being ‘Laaga Chunari Me Daag', which did moderately well at the box office. Pradeep Sarkar made his directorial foray into Bollywood with the film ‘Parineeta', which was produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and starred Saif Ali Khan and Vidya Balan.
