beginning figure skating. question?
i want to start figure skating lessons soon. but no matter what i can only go once a week.
so once i get to freestyle 1 i want to be able to practice as much as i want.
so will getting inline skates (not rollerblades or anything. like pic skates, or snow whites) help? or will they mess up my skating?
damn it. i said INLINE SKATES. NOT ROLLER SKATES
It will be different but it will help you somewhat.

Is anyone SICK of the massive food companys trying to go all healthy??
Like bloody Kelloggs trying to convince mothers that Frosties, a cereal where each piece is caked in sugar, is healthy because a cartoon tiger rides around on a pair of rollerblades....and they buy it! and every food is now 'wholegrain' or 'enriched with omega 3' or 'no added colourings'.....no added FUN more like....what happened to bright coloured food, food pumped full of crap so much it glowed...i know it was unhealthy but the fact is im still alive, so it couldnt have been that bad!
But although they keep Frosties, they get rid of all the good cereals!! what happened to Corn Pops?? or Lucky Charms?? America still has them....i took a box home when i went there....i put it in my hand luggage....the guy who had to search my bag gave me a funny look....he obviously doesnt know the only way to get them in the uk is by paying 7 QUID A BOX AT SELFRIDGES!!! (for any american readers thats 13 dollars!) its mad...
No it doesn't bother me at all. They make to food that sells the best. That is a way to make a profit. So I don't loose any sleep over it.

How come no one really rollerblades anymore?
I live in nyc and while in the 90s more people seemed to roller blade but nower days I rarely see people roller blading..why is this?
Quite a few do, just not as many as during the fad period (80s-90s).
Our local inline skate club has about 100 members and I see many people on the trails in Minnesota during the summer. In the winter, snow and high temperatures below 20 degrees pretty much kill off outdoor skating. However, we have an indoor skating location with a 4/10 mile loop at www.roller-dome.com where there will be hundreds of people per night.
Inline skating was created by the Olson brothers who found an ancient pair of inline skates and did the engineering to make them practical. They expected them to be a way for hockey players to train in the summer and created the Rollerblade company.
It became obvious that inline skates were much safer and faster outdoors than the quad skates that had been popular.
The uniqueness of the skates and scenes on TV started a fad where many people bought them. Quite a few of those skates permanently went into the closet after people found that it took more than a few minutes to get used to them.
For a short period of time, inline skates were outselling bicycles and more people claimed to be using them. After the novelty wore off, those where were skating regularly kept on skating and the fad followers stayed home.
They were also very big in the aggressive world (where kids will try harder to master things) but skateboards can do flashier tricks where the board is away from the body.
Now inlines are at a slow growth mode of a new (non-fad) sport.

Inline blades: mission bsx or vector 02 ???
i need some some hockey rollerblades for pickup streethockey games and just cruisin around town. my budget is tight so ive found the mission bsx's, which go for around $100 and the ccm vector 02's, which go for around $115....any ideas??? i'll probably use them to prepare for my seasons on the ice as well ,but not strenuous training...just getting back in business.....
I've always worn CCM for ice hockey and I love them. I had CCM Black Tacks and now CCM Pro Tacks. CCM makes a great skate.
I've never tried Mission, but I hear good things about them.
If you're buying online make sure you try on the skate (or a similar skate in the same brand) prior to purchase. Skate sizes can be very deceiving. Mission (I think) run pretty close to standard shoe sizing, but CCM is about 2 sizes off. When wearing the skate you want to be as close to filling it out as possible without actually hitting your toes on the front of the boot.
I wear a size 4.5 CCM Pro Tack and women's size 7.5 shoe (men's 6.5).

Old Curiosity Shop, The (2007)(DVD) $18.95 Based on Dickens classic novel The Old Curiosity Shop tells the tale of Little Nell Trent (Sophie Vavasseur) who lives with her doting grandfather (Jacobi) in his London shop. It is a magical place, filled from wall to wall with dust-laden treasures, known as The Old Curiosity Shop. Grandfather keeps his nocturnal gambling activities a secret, borrowing heavily from evil, profiteering loan shark Daniel Quilp (Jones). When he gambles away what little money they possess, Quilp seizes the opportunity to take possession of their beloved shop. It seems Nell and Grandfather are left with only one option - to escape. The pair fall in with a number of colourful characters, some villainous and some affectionate, on the run from Quilp and his band of misguided money seekers, including Nells own wastrel brother Freddie (Dick) and his gullible friend Dick Swiveller (Breton). |

First Date Tips and Conversation Starters
One of the things that many singles have difficulty with is talking with a new person or going out on a first date. Whether it is chatting with someone that you met online or going on a blind date, these experiences can sometimes be uncomfortable and stressful. Here are some tips on first date ideas, as well as starting a conversation up and keeping it going.
First Date Ideas
For most people, the goal of a first date is to meet a person and to figure out if you are either interested or compatible with that person. While a first date doesn't have to be a perfect 10 to know that there can be something in the future with this person, most people just want it to go positively.
One of the best places to go for a first date is to a coffee shop. Coffee shops are great, because you can sit and talk to one another. You won't get to know each other sitting in a darkened movie theater staring at a screen for two hours. Coffee shops are usually made for conversation; they are affordable for singles on a budget and located in convenient locations. Plus you can meet during the evening or even schedule a lunch date.
If you find that you are not that sociable or pretty quiet when you date, you might want to set up a date where you both do an activity. First dates such as bowling, rollerblading or ice skating are a great way to meet someone new and if the conversation slows down, you can focus on your activity. You can take this idea one step further and instead of doing an athletic based activity, you can choose a cultural activity, such as an exhibition, visiting a museum or enjoying a live musical performance.
Ultimately, your goal is to figure out if you enjoy this person's company, so choose dates that fit your style and personality, while also giving you an opportunity to get to know someone new.
Conversation Starters
Let's face it; it can be very difficult to start a conversation with someone that you don't know at all or very well. While there are people that are experts and can make friends with anyone, most people usually find themselves tongue tied or speechless at certain moments. One of the ways to avoid this obstacle is to remember common and easy to use conversation starters.
First off, conversations starters are not closed ended sentences that require no input from the other person; they are open ended questions or statements that invite the other person to share their thoughts. You don't have to ask very smart questions, you can just engage in small comfortable chit chat that gets you both talking, eventually, this small chit chat will lead to a more meaningful and interesting conversation. Some of the most common conversation starts are; how was your weekend? Have you been to a specific place before (the restaurant or coffee shop that you are at)? What area are you from originally? W school or college did you attend? You can also talk about movies, music, favorite television shows, etc. The goal is to relax and feel comfortable conversing with the other person, once relaxed and comfortable, the conversation will usually flow.

Fitness in Your Fifties - Taking it Outdoors
The summer is rapidly coming to a close, but there are still many weeks of beautiful weather…perfect for exercising outdoors. Living in the southeast has its advantages! It’s often still hot enough in the afternoon that it’s probably preferable to engage in these activities early in the morning or in the evening, after 6pm, when it’s a little cooler. The great part of being active outdoors is that the possibilities are endless. You can walk or run…you can ride a bike…you can rollerblade, and the outdoor pools are still open if you enjoy swimming. How about a little volleyball or softball or even soccer? Live in a place that has great trails? Go hiking with friends…give rock climbing a try…or take a rafting trip. All of these are wonderful ways to enjoy the great outdoors, while giving your body a workout.
You also need to consider some other activities that you usually call “chores,” which in reality are a great way to be active and productive at the same time. Take some time to weed your garden. How about planting some new flowers that will bloom in the fall? Your grass is still growing…30-40 minutes of mowing your lawn will burn some calories (unless you are using a riding mower). Throw open that garage door and give it a good cleaning. Many suburbanites use their garages as a storage unit, rather than a place to park their car. Items in it tend to pile up, so take some time to go through boxes and dispose of unwanted items. Wash the car…or cars. Make it even more physical by giving it a good waxing after it’s dried. If you own a dog, take it for a long walk (20+ minutes) every day. Every one of these are great ways to move your body, work your muscles, increase your heart rate as well as provide your body with vitamin D (which comes from exposure to the sunlight). It doesn’t always have to be “formal” exercise to count.
I urge you to take advantage of the extended daylight…the moderate temperatures and the chance to enjoy the outdoors. You might be tempted to take your iPod or MP3 player with you on these outings. My advice is to skip it and just enjoy the sounds of your surroundings. If any streets are involved, you need to be listening for cars, which wearing headsets might make difficult. Try saving your music for those indoor workouts on the treadmill or elliptical. I always think its fun to enjoy your surroundings on a walk or bike ride. Sometimes you might notice something that you’ve never seen before, which can surprise and delight you.
It’s important to intentionally plan these activities. Be sure that you do something 3-5 times per week. Put them on your calendar as a reminder. Whenever possible, enlist a friend to go with you. The camaraderie will provide you with stimulating conversation and make you more accountable. It will make the time go faster too. On the flip side…don’t put this off if you don’t have anyone who can join you. Instead, challenge yourself and make the commitment to do it! Marking it off on your kitchen calendar will make your accomplishment more visible.
If you still have school age children, don’t let the back to school rush cause you to give up exercise (with the promise to return to it in October). If your child plays a fall sport, go to the games and walk around the field during the warm-ups. See how many circuits you can complete before the game starts. Invite your teenager to join you for your walks or bike rides. Maybe even make an afternoon of yard work a parent/teen activity. Doing things together will encourage conversation and provide some valuable family time. It will also show your child that you care enough about yourself that you choose to be active!

Is it hard to make the transition between Hockey Skates and powerslides?
I have been skating with inline rollerblades for 9 years. The ones I'm used to are the regular boot that comes up on your leg about 5 inches. The wheels are 80mm with an 85a softtness. I'm about to buy some powerslides with lowcut boots and 110mm wheels, same softness.
I've already taught myself how to double push on turns and going forward with these regular inlines, so do you think it'll be hard to start using powerslides?
Hardness of the wheels will be unimportant.
Powerslide is just one of many makers of inline racing skates. The big difference (assuming that you have reasonable skill and will be able to handle the large wheels) will be the lack of support by the racing boots.
I know people who have loosened all the cuff fastening buckles and laces to prepare for racing boots. Also know people who found that they could only skate for 15 - 30 minutes at first on the racing boots instead of hours on other skates. That went away as their ankle muscles became stronger and able to support them better.
A trick to try is to put your 80mm wheels on the frames first to get your ankles used to the short boot without the additional leverage of the 110mm wheels.
From what I have been hearing from my racing friends, 110mm may be too big for some people.

Rollerblading Safety Measures in any Location
Rollerblading is a wonderful sport and great exercise to keep you physically fit. People from all walks of life enjoy rollerblading simply because it is easy and fun. Coupled with this enjoyment of rollerblading are some important safety measures that you need to follow to avoid accidents or injuries.
Certain situations are beyond your control but that does not mean you should throw all caution to the wind. You may take a nasty spill every now and then where you may suffer minor injuries such as scraped knees or bruised hands. Or you may suffer more serious injuries such as a collision or concussion from rollerblading. So it is absolutely critical that you use the proper safety rollerblading gear to avoid these injuries.
Rollerblade helmet is the most important piece of rollerblade protective equipment for rollerblading. Never ever rollerblade without securing your helmet on first to avoid serious head injuries. Make sure that the helmet is of good quality and that it fits your head properly. Oversized rollerblade helmets are no good because it provides no protection whatsoever. On the other hand small helmets are too tight and too uncomfortable. The interior lining of the helmet should be lined with cushioned padding for comfort and protection.
Other rollerblading safety tips include:
1. Get the complete rollerblading protective gear such as wrist guards, elbow pads and kneepads
Each gear has its own specific safety function, and they are all designed to protect the main parts of your body from injuries and impact in case you land or fall accidentally. Not using these protective gears may result in a bruised knee or broken wrist etc.
2. Learn the rollerblading basics first before you go on roads
To avoid accidents, you should practice the basics such as rollerblading forward, stopping and turning before you decide to rollerblade on the road.
3. Self-control and speed control matters
Be aware of your surroundings especially when you are rollerblading on the road. If you are rollerblading too fast, then slow down. You will be prone to accident if you do not learn how to control your speed.
4. Watch out for road signs and road hazards
Watch out for potholes or cracks on the road, or for slippery oil or water patches, as missing these dangers might cause you to fall.
5. Always be courteous to fellow rollerbladers and pedestrians
You do not own the road; you share it with other rollerbladers and pedestrians, so be polite and courteous.
6. Traffic rules should still prevail
Follow traffic rules such as stopping at the red light when crossing the road in case oncoming cars do not see you.
Bear in mind that rollerblading is a great sport but could also be dangerous. As long as you keep the above safety tips in mind, rollerblading is a fun and enjoyable activity.

Skateboard Bearings – The Different Types
Skateboard bearings are an essential part when it comes to skateboards and to how they ride. The better the bearings the faster they travel and the smoother they are which makes it easier to ride which in turn makes it easier for the rider.
There are many different brands of skateboard bearings to choose from, all varying in price and quality: Bones, Flip, Lucky, Reflex, Independent, Shortys, and World Industries. Bones and Swiss Bones are considered to be the best bearings you can get for your skateboard and many of the professionals use these which is mirrored in the price for them of up to £75. If you are a beginner you are better off getting a lower end priced set of bearings for under £10. Your bearings can be become damaged if you do not look after them properly and from the way you ride the skateboard and so for beginners it is better if you use ‘beginners’ bearings to accommodate your learning to skateboard and your wallet.
What are Skateboard Bearings Made Out Of?
Skateboard bearings are usually made from a few different materials. Stainless steel and chromium steel are usually the main metals the bearings are made out of, the retainer maybe nylon or stainless steel, and the ball steel or ceramic steel. Depending on your requirements skateboard bearings can be made out of rubber, metal or Teflon. All bearings have the option of coming sealed with metal protection shields or open. People buy sealed bearings because dust and dirt can get inside the bearing and cause them to not run properly and then lead to failure. The protective coating prolongs the life of the bearing and how well it rides.
Thrust Bearings for your Skateboard – The New Age Skateboard
Carver, a famous brand of skateboards, have developed a skateboard that has the smoothest ride ever and can handle hard hitting drops that most skateboards can’t. It was actually found by mistake but they have designed a new skateboard that doesn’t use the standard ball bearing but thrust bearings. What does this mean? It means that usually when you hard hit a surface after a jump your skateboard gives way and doesn’t follow you once you have hit the surface which means you hit the floor. Thrust bearings means they can handle these hard hitting drops and go with you so you can carry on skating. Carver has been testing this skateboard for months now and the general public are eagerly awaiting its release.

Inline/Roller hockey skate wheels?
I play roller hockey about twice a week. How often should I replace the wheels on my inline skates? (I have Nike Skates and RinkRat VT333 wheels)
You don't say what kind of surface you play on, so I'll answer a couple ways.
If you're playing indoor, you should replace them when the grip is starting to quit. Your style of play will determine that. But you can tell when your turns aren't as sharp and when it is harder to stop, as wheels without grip are more likely to cause this. When I played goalie, I had harder wheels in back for this reason, it didn't stop me as much as gripier wheel did.
If you are outdoors, replace them when the wheel if flat. Since the wheels start with a kind of point, you can gage this rather easily.

Inline Roller Hockey - Getting Started
In the United States the sport of hockey doesn't receive near the same level of notoriety that other sports such as football, baseball, or even basketball receive…although we believe that it certainly should. However, that does not mean that the sport isn't immensely popular across the nation through ice and roller hockey leagues. In fact, hockey is one of the most popular organized sports across North America, and has been for well over 100 years.
Hockey leagues are offered nationwide at numerous hockey rinks, with most offering a variety of leagues for children and adults of all ages and skill levels. However, these leagues are not limited to solely ice hockey. As inline skating has gained in popularity over the past decades, so has the interest in Roller Hockey. All of the same basic rules apply to roller hockey that apply to ice hockey, with the only major variations existing in the playing surface and the type of skate you are using. Minor rule variations may exist from league to league, but the substance of the game is still very much the same.
There are many characteristics in the sport of roller hockey that make it vastly appealing to people of all ages. First, it is relatively inexpensive to become involved in when compared to ice hockey. Second, there are many leagues available that help make the competition level remain fairly even. Additionally, you can play the sport in any or all of the four seasons, regardless of your geographic location. Finally, you can put a team together of many of your friends who also enjoy the sport. There are many other reasons as well, but these are just some of the many.
If you are interested in becoming involved in roller hockey, you will need to purchase certain equipment to be eligible to play. The basic equipment is what you will need, any additional items are solely your decision:
- Roller Hockey Skates (no brake is required)
- Hockey Stick
- Hockey Gloves
- Hockey Helmet (with or without mask and HECC Approved)
- Hockey Shin Pads
- Hockey Elbow Pads
- Roller Hockey Pants
- Jock Strap (men) / Pelvic Protector (women)
Equipment Tips
An appealing characteristic of roller hockey is that is less expensive than ice hockey. The most important part in selecting your equipment is that you make sure it fits correctly. There is no sense in spending oodles of money on high-end equipment if it does not fit properly. Make sure your equipment fits properly, then worry about price if you so choose.
In that same mindset, a crucial purchase will be your roller hockey skates. Make certain that your skates feel comfortable and fit properly. If they are not comfortable and/or do not fit properly, you will be in lots of pain when you have to make those quick stops and turns.
If you are just starting in roller hockey, do not hesitate to save yourself a few bucks at first by just wearing some sweatpants over your shin pads. However, we strongly recommend that after a few times out that you purchase a pair of roller hockey pants. Roller hockey pants are lightweight, breathable, and reinforced in the knees and seams to be durable. Sweatpants are suitable in the beginning, but you will quickly find yourself sweating in places you never knew you could sweat.
Getting Started
If you are interested in getting started in roller hockey, but you don't know how, try starting with a friend or joining a league at your local roller hockey rink. You can search for a rink in your area by clicking here. Once you find a rink close to you, you are well on your way to seasons and seasons of fun.

A Brief History About Skateboarding
There are so many skateboarders today it is crazy recent study shows that there are over 12 million people world wide that skateboard and a third of those people are under the age of 18. That is one good sport and a lot of people must love something about the sport of skateboarding.
Skateboarding is just a sport to some but to the people that actually love the sport it is a lifestyle. It was first made and rode in the 1950s and was just a piece of wood with wheels. Now the modern skateboard that we are using is made from all kinds of different things like fiberglass and the wheels are not just wheels anymore they are made from polyurethane and other materials. So if you though that skateboards were still being made like they were back then you need to go look at what is being made now.
Back when they were using those kinds of skateboards all the surfers in California would take the wheels off the roller skates and put them on a skateboard deck and make themselves skateboards to ride down the hills in California. That is far from how they are made today even though they first made skateboards that early and with some Roller Skate Wheels.
Back then when they were making those types of skateboards they looked like surfboards because they were long and would turn so quick. Today skateboards are made from more durable materials and can be used for awhile. They sold so many skateboards in that time when they first came out that they had to make or come up with something new because everyone already had the first they wanted to see what the new decks would look like. The new types of wheels would come out before any new type of skateboard would.
Every day people will use a skateboard as a mode of transportation and people love to skateboard. It is something that has consumed the world and the world's people seem to like what skateboarding has to offer so it does appear that it is staying and getting better.
Most of people see skateboarding as just another sport and you cannot do the sport in most public places other then skate parks these days. It is illegal in most places to skate where they have public property. The real skateboarders see skateboarding as a lifestyle and like to live like it is every day. They will wear all skateboarding brand clothes and will wear skate shoes. You can spot a skateboarder from just the type of clothing that they will be wearing.
Skateboarding if you look back when it started evolved from surfing so if you are trying to blame the cause of a great discovery on the hippies you are wrong. Skateboarding evolved from surfing and it started and now today the skateboarding industry is booming. People that are in with the sport already will continue to do the sport forever because it will become part of their every day activities and to most people will be their lifestyle. So if you are a person that wants to get started in skateboarding then you need to go buy a skateboard and try it out.

Inline Aggressive Skate or Aggressive Inline Skating - Take your pick!
Whatever term you prefer to choose, Aggressive inline skating is an extreme sport, performed on specially designed inline skates with a focus on tricks, stunts and style.
Inline Aggressive skating is a form of skating where stunts and tricks like jumps, grinds, slides and flips form the basis for all of the skating manoeuvres.
Aggressive skaters slide on edges and ledges, jump over barriers, rotate in the air like gymnasts and defy gravity. These manoeuvres can be extremely dangerous, and is given an "X" sport classification.
The equipment used by aggressive skaters usually includes small, relatively soft inline skate wheels that help skaters accelerate and decelerate quicker and promotes better skate control for stunts and manoeuvres.
Aggressive skates are slower and the less durable soft wheels need more frequent replacement than other inline skate wheels.
3 Types of Inline Aggressive Skating
1. Street
Street skating or free-style skating, is where the skater performs tricks by utilising features existing in an everyday environment. This involves grinding along handrails and concrete ledges, jumping stairs and ‘ramping’ off of embankments. Street skaters usually do less high-flying stunts, because the structural elements that they have restrict them.
2. Park
This style often emphasises the technical side of aggressive inline, focusing on the variety of tricks a skater can do and encouraging skaters to connect each trick.
Skate parks often feature quarter pipes and half-pipes, curved ramps and other features that are not usually found in a regular urban setting.
3. Vertical
Also commonly known as Vert in street slang. Aerial stunts and manoeuvres are executed when a skater drops into a half pipe structure that becomes vertical at the top. Skaters use the structure to build speed and then perform stunts as they pop up several feet above the half pipe structure.
As the sport evolved, skate companies started manufacturing wheels that were intentionally undersized, in order to facilitate grinding. The undersized wheels are called anti-rockers.
Since some skaters skate with only two wheels on each skate, some frames are designed to match this called a free-style frame.
Safety
Safety gear such as helmets, guards and crash pads should be ‘de rigeur’. Skaters should protect themselves with adequate protective gear and arm themselves with learning both basic and advanced skating techniques especially on how to fall and land safely.
This is particularly relevant to young skaters who are attracted by the ability to perform tricks and impress their friends and families.
Therefore get expert help and advice from your local Inline aggressive skate store to avoid the risk of permanent injury.

Sweet Sixteen Invitations for Sweet 16 Birthday Party
Sweet 16 Party Invitations for Sweet Sixteen Party
Of all the milestones in a young girl's life, her Sweet Sixteen Party, http://www.announcements-shoppe.com/party/ is one of the biggest and most important. That means you should start planning the event long before you begin sending out Unique Sweet 16 Party Invitations Cards, http://www.cardsshoppe.com/party-invitations/sweet-16-party-invitations-cards.htm Keep in mind that this is no ordinary party. This is going to be the biggest party in your daughter's honor until her wedding reception so chances are she's going to have some pretty impressive sweet 16 party demands of her own.
Arranging the Sweet 16 Birthday Celebration
Most of these events start off with a theme. You and your daughter should probably work together to determine which theme would be the most appropriate. Remember that the theme is going to be an important part of all the other details. That's one reason why you'll want to consult with your daughter before making a choice. In fact, she should have a great deal of input. One way to pick a theme is to look for a great birthday invitation you both love and build the rest of the event around those selected Sweet Sixteen Invitations, http://www.express-invitations.com/kid-birthday-invitation/sweet-sixteen-invitations.php
Generally, the theme should revolve around something your daughter enjoys. For example, if you love ice skating that could be a theme for the party. You could rent the ice skating rink, hire a band or a disk jockey, serve shaved ice desserts, and purchase a birthday cake decorated with ice skates. That would be one possibility.
Second, you'll want to decide on a budget. Remember that you're going to end up spending a lot more with this event than on any of the previous events and that doesn't include the phenomenal present your daughter will probably be expecting. Decide how much you can afford and how much you are willing to avoid. Do not just assume that you should give in to every one of your daughter's whims when it comes to her sweet 16 invitations. Setting spending limits will keep you from going into debt and will ensure that you make smart financial decisions when planning the event.
One way to save money on the sweet sixteen invitation is by going online. You can usually find a better deal at an online vendor, especially if you choose to print your own sweet sixteen cards. You definitely want to think about this because it's a good way to save money that you can spend elsewhere.
Sweet 16 Party Invitations: Other Considerations
Your sweet 16 invitation wording definitely needs to include all of the details about your party, including the RSVP information, as well as the date and location. Make sure you set an RSVP date so you can make sure to have a good idea of who will be attending the event.
If you have other details, these can also be added to the Sweet Sixteen Party Invitations Cards, http://www.cardsshoppe.com/party-invitations/sweet-16-party-invitations-cards.htm For example, the name of the band or DJ can be added. Some guests may even use this information to decide whether or not to attend. Of course, you don't want to mention anything about gifts. Most guests will bring them but they shouldn't feel it's a pre-requisite for attending.

I'm a 27 year old beginner wanting to get into roller blading, for exercise and hockey, what kind do I buy?
My friends have been asking me for the last year to join them on Saturday nights for roller hockey outside. They seem to have lots of fun though my roommate always came back messed up haha. He wouldn't expect me to get out there now. I just got married and I told my wife, you know what I'm going for it. See I skated a bit in high school but not enough to keep it going smoothly. I sprained my right ankle playing basketball my senior year. That was that. I was very scared from that point on, that feeling of instability that comes with skating and the ankle. Well I watch the dog whisperer with Cesar Millan and I noticed he gets around on the New Zealand Skorpion skates. 4 wheels evenly distributed look more appealing to my ankle than just one line of 4s. Can you use those for hockey? Or would it be best for me to buy roller blades and just keep on practicing until I get it? What do I buy? I don't want to spend over $150 just for a pair of skates. I'm married! lol Your thoughts
I would bet that the Dog Whisperer gets paid to wear skates on the show. There used to be all sorts of questions on the Landrollers that he used to wear. Neither would be suitable for playing hockey or better than inline skates for general use.
Inline skates are not difficult to learn. Be sure that you get ones that fit snug on your feet. You want them to act as part of your feet without shifting on your feet as you move.
You can play hockey on recreational inline skates but Hockey Skates have some design features that make them better for hockey.
The distance between the front and rear wheels is shorter to allow you to maneuver easier.
The cuff is higher and stiffer to help you manuever and to protect your ankles from the occasional hits.
The skates are built a bit heavier to stand up to the abuse from maneuvering and occasional hits.
Hockey skates generally come without a heel brake. In a Hockey Game, they present a tripping risk and the speeds are not as high.
Recreational skates come with a heel brake that can be removed.
Rec skates would be better for non-hockey skating.
